God is Bigger than your Mountain
- “”Truly I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them.” Mark 11:23 NIV
- Sometimes I can take things too literally. Like in this verse, Jesus says we can tell a mountain to move into the sea. Well, maybe not a literal mountain, but what about a difficult circumstance? A personal trial or struggle. What about fear or worry; insecurity or doubt? These could be considered “mountains”. So, what if we spoke to these “mountains”, like David.
- In 1 Samuel 17:45 (NIV), David is speaking to Goliath, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.”
- Now Goliath, as we know, was a big man, a giant, maybe even 9 feet tall! But David didn’t focus on the bigness of the giant, he focused on the bigness of His God!
- I love how David spoke to his "mountain", he face it head on. He called out the negative voices in his head. The voices that said he wasn't good enough, strong enough, or that he'd never make it. He countered the lies with the truth of who he knew God to be, he went towards his challenge in the strength of his God.
- What if we were to do do the same? Say to our "mountain", whatever it may be, you come at me with fear, and lies and discouragement, but I come to you in the strength of my God! What if we spoke to our "mountain" the truths of who God has been and will continue to be in our lives? What if we came armed with the promises of God to help us deal with whatever issues we face?
- Like Zechariah 4:6..."Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit says the Lord of hosts”. Romans 8:37, “in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us”. Or, Isaiah 26:3(ESV), “You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.”
- So the next time you face a “mountain”, speak to it in the name and strength of the Lord our God!
