God is greater than our enemy

‭‭ ”They will fight against you, but they shall not prevail against you, for I am with you, declares the Lord, to deliver you.”“

‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭1‬:‭19‬ ‭ESV‬‬

“They will fight against you”, not they might, or they may or could, but they will. Who are “they”? In Jeremiah’s day it was the Israelites who had turned against God, the Israelites were the “they” that would fight against Jeremiah and his message. But what or who are the “they” for me? For us? I think the “they“ are the enemies of our souls and mind. Or even those who would try and discourage us in our walk of faith, or even criticize our beliefs. But one thing I’ve learned, our enemy, regardless of what form he takes, is relentless in his attacks. Remember Peter said, “Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.”1 Peter 5:8 ESV. To devour by definition is to “eat hungrily”; “to destroy completely”. Our enemy is ruthless, he will fight against us, but we are not without hope! This verse says, “they shall not prevail”! Why? Because God will deliver us! 2 Thessalonians 3:3 says, “But the Lord is faithful. He will establish you and guard you against the evil one.” We are not alone in this battle, God is on our side, take comfort in 1 John 4:4 which says, “Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.”
