God Rejoices Over You

 “The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.” Zephaniah 3:17

“God is in your midst”. I love that word “in”. One dictionary definition is “enclosed or surrounded by something else.” When your “in” your home, you’re surrounded by walls; roof overhead, you’re sheltered, it’s your place of refuge. God is “in” your midst. He shelters you, He surrounds you, He is your place of refuge. There is no place you can go where He is not. “Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence? If I ascend to heaven, you are there! If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there! If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me.” ‭‭(Psalm‬ ‭139:7-10‬ ESV‬‬). He is as close as your next heartbeat, He is the breath you breathe. He is the “Mighty One who will save”. It doesn’t say He might save, but will save. It’s a done deal. Psalm 46:1 reminds us He is “a very present help in trouble”. All we have to do is call out to Him. He is always there to guide us, help us, strengthen us in our times of need. “He will rejoice over you with gladness”. Isn’t that awesome! I did a little research and “rejoice over you” – literally means “dance, skip, leap, and spin around in joy.” God dances with shouts of joy over us! How much more should we dance with joy since He is in our midst?" And then there’s, “He will quiet you by His love”. Don’t you just love that! When we are anxious or afraid, when worries or the cares of life get us down, He is there to comfort and “quiet us by His love”! Psalm 31:24 says, “Be strong and let your heart take courage, all you who wait for the Lord”! And Jesus reminds us, ““Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me.”John‬ ‭14:1‬ ‭ESV‬‬‭‭   Lastly, “He will exult over you with loud singing”. The Lord, Creator of the universe, who calms the seas, and knows the stars by name, sings over us. And not like a lullaby, but loudly! So the next time you are feeling down or discouraged, remember God rejoices over you, He quiets you with His love, He sings loudly over you and He will rescue you!

What controls you?

“Keep your servant also from willful sins; may they not rule over me. Then I will be blameless, innocent of great transgression.” ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭19‬:‭13‬ ‭NIV‬‬ What controls you? What are you allowing to rule over you? Is it an attitude? Behavior? Habit? What do you need to maintain control over? Anger? Resentment? Bitterness? Jealousy? Need for approval or praise?  In Genesis 4:3 it says, “…Cain brought an offering". What kind of offering? Was it the best of the fruit? Or was it the leftovers? Did Cain keep what he wanted for himself and give to the Lord what he knew he could do without? Was it really much of a sacrifice? The Bible doesn’t say, but God wasn’t pleased with His offering. God knew Cain’s heart. He knew his true motivation. Affliction Can Produce Fruit

“The name of the second he called Ephraim, “For God has made me fruitful in the land of my affliction.”” Genesis‬ ‭41‬:‭52‬ ‭ESV‬‬ “For God has made me fruitful in the land of my affliction”. How many times have I read that verse and never really thought about it? We all know the story of Joseph, and how God used him even in the midst of his struggles and difficult circumstances and brought about good. Can He do the same for us? For me? Can God make me fruitful in the “land of my affliction“? And what is the “land of affliction” we are in? This “land” will be different for everyone. We may not like the circumstances we’re currently experiencing. We may not like the trials that daily come our way. We may ask God how long we must endure? But what if, like Esther, we were “made for such a time as this”?(See Esther 4:14).
